How to Scan a QR Code from a Screenshot (2026)
Scan a QR code from a screenshot on iPhone, Android, or a computer. The camera and Live Text often fail. The free Qrblox tool reads the saved image and previews the link first.
Someone sent you a QR as a screenshot. You point the camera at your own screen and nothing happens. Or Live Text never shows the yellow badge.
That is normal. Phone cameras read live video. They do not read a file sitting in Photos.

Why the camera and Live Text fail
The Camera app looks for a QR in the video stream. A screenshot is a still file. There is no stream to watch.
Live Text (iPhone) and Google Lens (Android) sometimes notice a QR in a saved image. They want a clean, upright, high-contrast code. A Discord crop, a Roblox share, a Wi-Fi card photographed at an angle, or a dim ticket screenshot will miss.
If the badge never appears, stop fighting the Photos app. Use a tool that reads images.
iPhone: scan a screenshot
- Capture the QR. Power + Volume Up, or long-press an image and tap Save Image.
- Optional: open the image in Photos and look for a yellow QR badge. If it is there, tap it. If it is not, leave Photos.
- Open the Qrblox screenshot scanner in Safari, or open the Qrblox iPhone app.
- Pick the screenshot. Read the destination preview. Open the link only if it looks right.
The app also keeps a history, so a Wi-Fi password or ticket does not vanish after you close the page.
Android: scan a screenshot
- Take the screenshot or long-press the image and save it.
- Optional: open Google Photos, tap Lens, and hope the badge shows. Lens uploads the image to Google. Skip it for Wi-Fi, payments, or 2FA codes.
- Open the Qrblox screenshot scanner in Chrome, or install Qrblox on Google Play.
- Select the file. Check the preview. Then open the link.
Most Play Store scanners hide “scan from gallery” behind a subscription. Qrblox does not.
Desktop: paste or upload
You do not need a phone.
- Open scan a QR code from a screenshot on your computer.
- Drag the PNG or JPG onto the drop zone. Or click the zone and pick the file. If the screenshot is on your clipboard, save it first, then upload.
- Wait a second. The decoder runs in the browser.
- Read the URL (or Wi-Fi / text payload) before you click through.
This is the same path when someone emails you a QR, or when the code is in a Slack thread you already have open on a laptop.
Safety: preview before you open
A QR is just a URL with extra steps. You cannot see the destination by looking at the squares.
Quishing (phishing via QR) is a 2026 problem, not a niche one. A sticker on a parking meter, a fake event ticket, a “Wi-Fi” card in a cafe: all of them can send you to a lookalike login page.
Qrblox shows the destination first. If the domain is wrong, close it. Do not type a password. The web tool never sends your image to Qrblox. The decode stays on the device.
If the scan still fails
- Crop tighter around the code and try again.
- If the screenshot is dark, raise the brightness and capture it again.
- Do not stretch the image. Distorted modules will not decode.
- Stylized or logo-heavy codes fail more often. Ask for a plain version if you can.
